This was the first time my office mates and I traveled together to Mount Bromo. We were picked up by the driver we had booked from SDDU Tour at 9:00 PM at my house. The car was comfortable for traveling in a group, and they provided snacks and bottled mineral water inside the vehicle.
The journey then continued through Probolinggo. As the night grew later, we started to feel sleepy. The driver who took us was friendly and chatted with us several times during the trip, which made the journey feel more relaxed.
At midnight, we arrived in Sukapura, then continued to the jeep garage to begin our journey to Mount Bromo. The team from SDDU Tour had already prepared a jeep for us. Please note that only jeeps are allowed to pass through the roads in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park area. Wow, this was going to be a very exciting journey!
After passing the entrance gate of Mount Bromo, our jeep was parked in a line with many other jeeps. Since it was the weekend, the area was more crowded than usual. We sat for a while at a small stall and ordered some warm drinks and snacks.
After that, we walked to the sunrise point, which is one of the best places to witness the sunrise. Slowly but surely, we watched the beautiful sunrise appear before our eyes. Many visitors were capturing the moment with their phone cameras.
After enjoying the sunrise, we continued our journey by going down from the viewpoint. The fog was still thick and the cold air surrounded us. On both sides of the path, there were many small vendors selling snacks. We bought a few and took some photos around the area.
We got back into the jeep. The jeep driver and the driver from SDDU Tour seemed to have just enjoyed their morning coffee. Together, we headed to Bukit Teletubbies. We passed rows of beautiful green hills before finally arriving at the vast sea of sand. The sandy area was extremely wide, and we even saw a few motorcycles stuck in the sand.
The jeep was parked again, and we were invited to visit Pura Luhur Poten, a temple used for worship by the Tenggerese Hindus, the local people who live around the Bromo area.
The jeep driver then guided us to the crater of Mount Bromo. To reach it, we had to climb around 250 steps. But don’t worry if you are not strong enough to walk, because you can also rent a horse to take you up. One of my friends was helped by the SDDU driver to negotiate the price for the horse ride, and he looked very happy about it.
As the day was getting closer to noon, it was time for us to return to Sukapura. Before heading back to Surabaya, the SDDU driver invited us to have lunch first.
It was a short but very enjoyable trip. Both the driver from SDDU and the jeep driver were very friendly to us. I highly recommend this trip for anyone who has limited time for traveling. A trip to Mount Bromo is perfect to enjoy with your partner, friends, or family. If you are planning to visit Bromo, you can contact SDDU Tour to arrange your trip.
